DAGs, Garden Design Study Group and Wednesday Walkers Christmas morning tea and luncheon

Wednesday 13 December

At 9.30am - Roger Farrow and Christine Kendrick will be welcoming us to morning tea and to visit their garden at ‘Timbelaya’ 777 Urila Rd, Urila via Burra (50 mins from Canberra Central). Morning tea catering is arranged.

Late morning - We will then continue on to Peter and Lyn Woodbury's rural garden, where we will be again welcomed, for Christmas luncheon at 1048 Old Cooma Rd, Googong (only 20 mins from ‘Timbelaya’). Ph: 6299 5064

Please bring drinks and a plate to share (it’s been suggested we each bring our speciality). Tea, coffee, ice, crockery and cutlery will be provided.

All ANPS members are welcome to this get together and to see these 2 lovely gardens.

It has been a big year for the DAGs and GDSG with many people to thank for providing access to their beautiful gardens and helping with the organisation of the visits. We welcome offers from members to visit their garden in 2018.

 

Day Activity Group (DAGs) and Garden Design Study Group (GDSG).

 

  • Activities are generally held on the second Tuesday of each month and feature a range of activities including local native garden visits, workshops and art and creative vistis related to native plants.
  • We combine our activities with the ANSPA Garden Design Study Group (GDSG).400px_P10402721.JPG

  • Generally, All ‘local’ activities commence at 10:30am as the activity may be located a significant distance from Canberra .
  • Members are to make their own travel arrangements, however, should you be without or in need of transport and I am travelling from Queanbeyan past your suburb to the event - do not hesitate to call me for help. I know other members will also assist you in the same circumstance.
  • Members of the Garden Design Study Group are invited and welcome to join with ANPS gardeners to give their considered advice on each of the garden sites.
  • Please Note: Times and dates may change due to the availability of the location, times and supporting staff.
  • Email is the best way for me to contact you but you will need to supply your email to me if you wish to be fully informed of changes.
  • All activities will conclude with either a morning tea or a luncheon at a café or restaurant close to the activity location.

Binnaway Rail Heritage Barracks

The Binnaway Rail Heritage Barracks have been recently refurbished into budget accommodation. The Barracks are located in George St Binnaway. This accommodation has 11 rooms twin share and is fully air-conditioned. The property features a shared kitchen and lounge room. The Barracks are ideal for groups or budget travelers.

Camping Fees: This is a free campground, however there is a small charge for a powered site (coin operated). The hot showers are also coin operated ($2 for 5 minutes). This is a project of the people of Binnaway Progress Association and Lions Club, so say thanks and leave the place in a better condition than you found it (and do your shopping in town).

Bookings: This is a free camping area.

How to book: No bookings are required.

Toilets: Flushing Toilets

Pets: Pets are allowed with conditions

Water Availability: There is usually drinking water available at this campsite. Please take care, it may still be advisable to boil water before drinking.

Camp fires: Fires may be allowed in built fire places. Please check local fire bans and rules.

Barbeques: Electric/gas barbeques are available.

Picnic Tables: Yes.

The DAGs and the Garden Design Study Group visited Fiona's Matthew’s rural garden at 10.30am on Tuesday 17th October,2017 at 1617 Burra Road, Burra, NSW.

Fiona invited ANPS members to bring a picnic lunch and then visit the renown botanical artist Sharon Field’s studio/gallery at the Burra Schoolhouse from 1.30 pm.

ANBG July 18 2017 10:30am

During this chilly mid-winter period when many a DAG has 'migrated' to warmer climes, on July 18 2017 10:30am we will visit the Australian National Gallery to view Early Australian Landscape Artists.

The gallery has four galleries with art that focus on the artists interpretation of the floral landscape, at that moment in historical time, from the outset of European colonisation to more recent times.


The four ANBG galleries, Painting the land, Colonial viewpoints, Australian Impressionism and the Modernism gallerythat have a number of Australian landscape paintings and photos from over 30 significant artists.  Lunch will be at the gallery.

 Roger Farrow and Christine Kendrick will be welcoming DAGS and GDSG to morning tea/coffee and to visit their garden at ‘Timbelaya’ 777 Urila Rd, Urila via Burra (50 mins from Canberra Central). Christine Kendrick generously suggested that she can provide morning tea, easing burden of DAGs providing for this 'double bunger' event.

Late morning - We will then continue onto Peter and Lyn Woodbury's rural garden, where we will be again welcomed, for Christmas luncheon  at 1048 Old Cooma Rd, Googong (only 20 mins from ‘Timbelaya’).

Tuesday November 22nd 2016 

A visit to Pamela and Noel Finger's north Canberra urban native garden, 10 Rechner Place, Flynn. Their garden reflects Pamela and Noel's long-standing, staunch and passionate membership of ANPS. This maybe the last opportunity for ANPS to visit their beautiful garden, as sadly they are leaving Canberra for warmer Mackay. Ferns are but one floral feature. Pamela will be missed by all at ANPS as she has been a long time member and contributor to the life of ANPS. The DAGs wish her well in FNQ.
The Lunch venue will be Ricardos at Jameson. All ANPS members are welcome. Please note the date and time: Tuesday November 22nd 10:30 am.

Little Forest Road is signposted on the Princes Highway a couple of km north of Milton. Take this turn and head west, following the road all the way up the hill (about 7km). Towards the end there is a particularly steep stretch which ends at a group of letterboxes on the left, you should be able to see a sign saying Lyrebird Lane (if you see the Little Forest Health Retreat, you have gone too far). Turn left here and once past the tennis court, our house is the second on the right. It is bitumen all the way.

From Batemans Bay go down the Princess Hwy and pass through Mogo. 13 Km past Mogo, turn right onto Larrys Mt. Road. 1Km up Larrys Mt Road, take the first sealed road on the left Glendeuart Grove and follow it around the turn then left into Maclean Place. The Noake garden is the first driveway on the left with a large brown shed and 20 on the mailbox.

Go towards the town of Bodalla on the Princess Highway and look for Potato Point Road on the left as you are going south or right if you are going north. This road also has the Bodalla Bowling and Recreation club of it to the right and is near the Public School. Go 3.9 Km down Potato Point road and then take a left onto Horse Island Road. Go to the end and cross the bridge onto Horse Island. Bear right and keep going until you see parking in a paddock on the right.

Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens

The Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens is situated on a 42 hectare forest site five kilometres south of Batemans Bay. It is on the right coming north from Bodalla. Good or potential lunch venue. 268 Western Distributor Rd, Currowan NSW 2536. The Western Distributor Rd will be on your right hand side ascending the Clyde Mountain. Caution is required turning right onto Western Distributor Rd, from oncoming and impatient following vehicles.

I am awaiting further information on plant prices and whether credit facilities are available at the nursery.

Verdigris Nursery is a specialist fern nursery located in the foothills of the Clyde Mountain Range, about 25km inland from Batemans Bay, NSW. specialise in cold tolerant, drought tolerant and landscaping ferns.
