The Society sells small plants in 70 and 90 mm square pots because experience shows that a small healthy plant will often outstrip an expensive advanced plant bought to give instant effect. For proper root development it is critical that plants be in the right sized pot and that the pot has internal vertical ridges to train the roots to grow downwards. If the roots are restricted by the pot or grow incorrectly they will be deformed and the plant will be short lived. This is a particular risk for advanced plants.
In addition to our twice yearly sales, plants may be available at our regular monthly meetings, held on the second Thursday of each month except January, at Theatrette, Australian National Botanic Gardens, Clunies Ross St, Acton. Plants are sold from 7.00 pm, before the meeting starts at 7:30 pm, and after the meeting.
An indispensable reference for those growing Australian native plants in cold climates is our own book "Australian Native Plants for Canberra Region Gardens" available at bookshops, garden centres and at our meetings. NEW 5th eidition.
